Leaderkids Fort Worth Plans For New School Year

On October 6 (5:30 – 7:00 pm), LFW volunteers will meet with parents of 8th graders selected for the program for a Q&A session at the Professional Development Center, 3150 McCart Avenue, Room 108.  Students and their parents are welcome to attend.

On October 20 (2:00 – 6:00 pm), LeaderKids will gather at the TCU Recreation Building to meet each other for the first time at an Orientation led by TCU student mentors from the TCU Leadership Center.  The energy and enthusiasm of the TCU students is a tremendous asset in reaching out to middle school students.  A mentor is paired with each middle school student, so they can build a personal connection during the year.

The mission of LeaderKids is to develop leadership potential in middle school students through one-on-one mentoring with adult role models, and through community volunteer projects.  The motto is “Everybody has a leader inside.”  The LeaderKids curriculum is activity-based.  While they make field trips to interesting places, LeaderKids discover that every venue is structured as a learning center.

Highlights of the program year will include:  opening orientation and challenge course at TCU, community service project, visit to main campus of JPS Health Network, trip to corporate headquarters of BNSF Railway, tour of the new Museum of Science & History, and a closing event at TCC, South Campus.

If you are interested in being a role model and mentor for these students, you can make a commitment for one month, for one semester, or for the entire school year.  Please contact Mariem Harris (817-294-4059) or Ann Barr (817-921-2777) for details.
