Focus On Community Trusteeship
The Leadership Class gathered at TCC Trinity River Campus in October for Community Trusteeship Day. Our guest facilitator, Dr. Carol Spalding, engaged the group in some personal reflection to start the day. Class members reflected about their personal heros/heroines, favorite cities and the reality of their “life map.” Everyone’s artistic skills were put to the test as they depicted how they “fit” in Fort Worth. The “Wall of Creativity” included everything from giant exclamation points to stick figures to artists’ palletes.
After lunch, the discussion shifted to a community focus. The class compared their best guess with the actual statistics related to education, the environment, tourism, arts, demographics and health. Everyone was pleasantly surprised to learn that Fort Worth ranks 2nd in philanthropic dollars per capita – surpassed only by New York City! Our Community Trustee focus concluded with groups depicting their vision of Fort Worth in the future. We’ll revisit those ideal images again at the Closing Retreat.
During the last part of the day, community organizations and LFW mentors joined the class to discuss the group projects for this year. We look forward to January when each group will report on their progress to date.
We are grateful to Dr. Tahita Fulkerson and the many faculty and staff members for making us feel so welcome on the TCC Trinity River Campus!
