Leaderkids Fort Worth Launches 15th Year At Tcu

On Tuesday, October 20, LeaderKids Fort Worth Class of 2010 met for the first time at TCU. Thanks to Jared Cobb, Student Development Services Director, and Beatriz Gutierrez, AmeriCorps Vista – TCU Transitions, of the TCU Office of Student Development Services for recruiting TCU student leaders to serve as TCU Mentors. Each LeaderKid will have a TCU Mentor this year, in addition to a LFW Mentor. The TCU Mentors organized the afternoon’s agenda: icebreakers, games, orientation, small group discussions, and a campus tour. Afterward, the students and mentors enjoyed dining in a private dining room at BLUU (Brown-Lupton University Union).

On Tuesday, November 17, LeaderKids returned to the TCU campus to participate in the Challenge Course (low and high elements). A LeaderKids T-shirt with the new logo was presented to each student. The Challenge Course was an excellent venue for students to develop teambuilding, trust and communication skills. After a pizza supper, Beatriz gave each student a Purple Foam Hand with the Horned Frog salute. So the bus ride home turned into a TCU pep rally.

Tom McGraw took individual pictures of the students for a LeaderKids directory. He also took the LeaderKids action photos that you see here on the website. A monthly newsletter full of photos is mailed to each student’s home, so they can share it with their family.

If you are interested in being a role model and mentor for LeaderKids, you are welcome to visit for one month, one semester, or the entire school year. Please contact Mariem Harris (817-294-4059) or Ann Barr (817 921-2777) for details.
